What types of roles does The Second Shift fill?
We are focused on projects that have some level of flexibility - whether it is an on-going project that requires three days in an office, a six month parental leave fill-in role, or a 24 hour market research study.
How does the marketplace work?
We built a proprietary matching algorithm and use technology to enable direct connection and communication between companies and candidates. We are able to connect businesses with very specific challenges with women who have the exact experience and skills they are looking for, and may have even done that job in the past. Just how it works is our secret sauce.
How does The Second Shift vetting process work?
Women who apply for membership go through a rigorous application review process including checking multiple references and a personal interview.

Companies fill out a simple form outlining their project needs. Our proprietary technology alerts women with the requisite skills that there is a new project for them. If they are available and interested they will pitch themselves for the opportunity.
What is the criteria for posting a project?
Our team carefully curates the projects that are accepted to make sure they are up to the level of our experts. No project is posted without first being approved by The Second Shift. We do not fill entry or support level roles.
Why no full-time jobs?
Because the best talent thrives in flexible environments - our members have come to The Second Shift as an alternative to the traditional work schedule. That being said, if an employer and member work so well together that they want to commit to a full time arrangement, we are thrilled! Our goal is to get people working who want to work.
Are all the projects remote?
No, we strive to provide diverse opportunities for our network. Some projects are remote, some require travel for meetings and others are on-site.

Employers

Can I search The Second Shift site for members or open projects?
On The Second Shift you can only interact with women who have directly reached out to you, once you have posted a project. It is set up this way to ensure privacy for our experts. For businesses the benefit is ensuring only members with the skills and experience you require pitch for your project.
What are the next steps after I post a project?
  1. As soon as your project is approved you will start to receive emails with pitches from our experts. If you are interested in interviewing any of the candidates you can respond through our messaging platform and set up an appointment.

  3. Once the member is selected, your expert will put that information into a SOW (Scope of Work) document that you must sign off on.
  4. The work begins.
  5. Once the project is completed, you will receive an invoice from The Second Shift. The Second Shift handles all invoicing, payment and tax forms on behalf of our members.
What is the average number of pitches per project?
The number of pitches depends on many variables - location, length of assignment, project rate, onsite requirements, etc.

What if the project turns into a full-time role?
That is terrific! We hope that connections made on The Second Shift turn into on-going professional relationships. In the event that a project becomes a full-time role we will collect a 15% fee of a year salary—this is clearly stated in our Terms of Service.
